Career and Life Development Department PhilosophyIn alignment with the mission of Assumption High School, the Career and Life Development Department believes in providing experiences that educate the whole person, knowing that a well-rounded individual has greater potential for success in life. Elective courses in this department focus on a foundation in life and career skills that will prepare students for college programs and/or the pursuit of a career in a specific area. The faculty believe in incorporating 21st Century Learning into the content of their courses, forming learning partnerships, and presenting opportunities for applied learning. Business and Computer Science Department Goals and Objectives Goal #1: To provide learning experiences that allow students to remain current with business and technological trends. Objective 1.1: Offer courses and instruction that identifies technology trends and how they influence all aspects of the American economy and the job market. Objective 1.2: Understand how to work with generations in 21st century professional environments. Goal #2: To develop skills to survive in the complex and changing life and work environments of a competitive information age. Objective 2.1: Provide computerized simulations, multi-media, internet, handheld devices, and other media and technology to involve students in the learning process. Objective 2.2: Stay abreast of current research and trends in business and computer education. Goal #3: To educate students to be contributing citizens and leaders in the classroom and in society. Objective 3.1: Provide real life experiences, opportunities, and creative ways to incorporate information technology. Objective 3.2: Provide opportunities to research current business and technology topics using all online resources. Goal #4: To provide a variety of business and computer courses that will give students exposure to possible career choices. Objective 4.1: Provide opportunities for partnerships and applied learning projects with busineeses in the community through guest speakers and professional mentors. Objective 4.2: Provide learning opportunities to develop character, including interpersonal skills, dependability, initiative, and work ethic. Family and Consumer Science Department Goals and Objectives Goal #1: To strengthen the well-being of individuals and families across the life span. Objective 1.1: Use critical and creative thinking skills to address problems in Objective 1.2: Teach conflict resolution, communication, and stress management that Objective 1.3: Promote optimal nutrition and wellness in various instructional strategies. Goal #2: To empower individuals to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society. Objective 2.1: Provide students with opportunities to manages resources and meet their individual needs. Objective 2.2: Provide students with leadership opportunities that will help them become global citizens and leaders. Goal #3: To provide experiential learning opportunities. Objective 3.1: Plan course units that include authentic assessments, such as Baby-Think-It-Over, personal finance simulation, nutritional experiments, and meal planning.
