Business Department Philosophy
The primary mission of business education is to prepare students to pursue careers in business and to provide instruction for and about business. The discipline of business education prepares students to become contributing citizens who are capable of making good personal economic decisions and be able to succeed in the workforce. Also, business education courses provide a solid foundation for students to successfully complete college programs in business areas. The knowledge and skills that students can develop from business education courses can provide the tools for their personal and professional success.

Business education is for all students at all levels of education. The knowledge contained in the business education curriculum is not only valuable for all students in today’s world, but also critical to their future success. The content area of business education provides a foundation for success for all students, no matter what their ultimate goals in life may be.

Business education also requires far more than thinking skills and knowledge of content. Students need to develop adequate life and career skills in order to plot a course in the complex and changing life and work environments in a competitive information age. Students need to gain flexibility and adaptability, initiative and self direction, social and cross-cultural skills, productivity and accountability, and leadership and responsibility.

Business education plays a large role in incorporating 21st century skills. The potential for this lies in using digital tools and online resources. Business education uses online research to incorporate multimedia development using digital sources. Business education builds tomorrow’s skills while acknowledging today’s learning
Computer Science Department Philosophy
The primary mission of computer technology is to motivate students, stay current with the latest technology trends and issues, present relevant material to today’s students, individualize each student’s needs, use technology as a learning tool, provide opportunities for partnerships and applied learning projects.

Computer technology education must go above and beyond the traditional methods of lecture/discussion teaching. It must provide a variety of strategies and methods that engage students in critical thinking activities and hands-on projects that help them to understand how technology trends influence all aspects of the American economy and how this understanding will help them remain competitive within the job market. Computer technology education needs to create partnerships with businesses in the community through guest speakers, job shadowing and work study programs so that our students know what to expect and can see firsthand what it is like in the “real world”.

Updated technology must be used in classrooms that are more than computerized simulations. It should include multi-media, the internet, and other handheld devices as ways to get students involved in the learning process. It must also be engaging with real world data and issues, be able to accommodate a variety of different learning styles and it must be student owned. Finally, we need to teach our students how to have a good work ethic which includes good interpersonal skills, being dependable, taking initiative as well as other employable skills they will need. Students must have an understanding how to get along with generations that may have different views of what is a good work ethic.

Computer Technology must take an active approach to educating students on how to be 21st century leaders in the classroom by providing real life experiences and opportunities and creative ways to incorporate information technology. The knowledge and skills that students can develop from computer technology courses can provide the tools for their personal and professional success as well.

Computer technology is for all students at all levels of education. The knowledge contained in the computer technology curriculum is not only valuable for all students in today’s world, but also critical to their future success. The content area of computer technology provides a foundation for success for all students, no matter what their ultimate goals in life may be.
